Social networking site, Bebo is to integrate a tooth-whitening product within its new drama series.
Sofia's Diary, due to launch on March 14th, will follow 17-year-old Sofia Taylor, played by Rachel Hyde-Harvey and chart her difficulties after being sent to London.
As part of the plot, a real life make-up artist, Rachel Wood will demonstrate the product and then continue to promote it through her Bebo profile.
Brand manager, Mark Wrighton is keen to acknowledge the reach of the site, saying: "We recognise that social networking is emerging as an important form of self-expression."
Funded by advertising, the series is cross-media and will feature further products integrated throughout its episodes.
The web is increasingly used to display video clips and marketers are looking to monetise social networking sites with product placements and viral advertising.
The drama features opportunities for viewers to influence the plot and is a further example of the interactive nature of Web 2.0.
