Damage to undersea cables has cut off internet access for millions across the Middle East and India.
The 'outage' is thought to have occurred in a major internet pipeline between Egypt and Europe.
According to several reports, an anchoring ship damaged cables owned by Indian company FLAG - at least one cable is believed to have been severed.
The Egyptian Telecommunications Ministry told Reuters: "This cut has affected internet services in Egypt with a partial disruption of 70 per cent of the network nationwide."
The majority of connections are made to the web using cable, these are then routed via only thirteen international servers.
Despite receiving information from what are 'wireless' connections, all data must at some point, be transmitted this way.
In more rural areas communities often have satellite internet, which uses a dish for two-way upload and download.
