Guinness goes social
Web 2.0
29 January 2008
Guinness World Records has launched on online social community to increase interactivity with its website.
The company's site gets 11 million visitors per year. By creating a network, it has allowed users to review records as they are submitted and send up their own information and share it online.
The Guinness site was created by KickApps, an on demand social media platform. Guinness has invited players of Guitar Hero! to upload their scores and set a new record.
Visitors can submit record attempts in all categories, something chief executive officer Alex Blum said will "make for extremely viral and entertaining content".
The annual Guinness World Records book is published in more than 100 countries and 20 languages and is one of the highest-selling books under copyright of all time.
New this year is the Guinness World Records Gamers Edition 2008, which will be released in February. It features computer gaming facts and will reveal the highest grossing game in one day, was Halo 3.
