The International Federation for the Phonographic Industry (IFPI) has called on Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to do more to fight piracy.

In the organisation's 2008 Digital Music Report, it revealed that 15 per cent of the industry's profit now comes from online and mobile channels, but is was still struggling with piracy.

Chairman and chief executive officer, John Kennedy has acknowledged that attempts had been made to fight illegal copying, but he said what was needed is a "concrete programme of action".

"There is only one acceptable moment for ISPs to start taking responsibility for protecting content – and that moment is now."

He was impressed with the French government's introduction of filtering technology to prevent illegal downloads and wanted more effort to stop the dominance of the iPod and iTunes.

Apple, the owner of iTunes, has recently lowered its prices for UK users who were being charged more than people in Europe were.
