MySpace goes Beeb

Web 2.0

24 January 2008

MySpace has made its first global deal with a network, and signed up the BBC.

Visitors to the social network will be able to embed the corporation's clips in their personal pages and share them with friends.

"With the global nature of the deal, this is a great opportunity to put the best shows from the BBC in front of new audience," said the BBC's Simon Danker, director of digital media.

Advertising revenue will be shared by both companies and Jeff Berman, MySpace's executive vice president for marketing and content, said it "reflects a fast-approaching internet future defined by co-operation between corporations".

While Facebook has been developing network and social gizmos, MySpace has been setting itself up more as an entertainment provider.

Rupert Murdoch bought MySpace in 2005 as he diversified his business from more traditional media.
