The Post Office has begun an advertising campaign using MySpace, it has been reported.
Using a fictional postal worker, the brand hopes to engage with customers and expand their brand name.
The postie is Ken Dawson, as played by actor John Henshaw in the firm's TV ads. He has memo boards, picture galleries and even a couple of tea bags pinned up to his page.
However, advertising in social networks has proved difficult for some companies as they also face 'negative posts'.
Some sites allow 'hate pages' where angry consumers or protesters can air their views. One lawyer is concerned the sites might be in trouble, the Guardian has reported.
Nick Armstrong, a partner at law firm Charles Russell, writing in Media Law, said: "Social networking sites are perhaps being too complacent about some of the risks in this area."
He went on to explain that websites could still be held liable and said "sites would be safest if they didn't allow 'I hate' pages".
