Sixth formers in UK schools are repeatedly handing in work full of plagiarism, it has been revealed.
The Association of Teachers and Lecturers (ATL) survey, has found that the 58 per cent of teachers who said it is a problem believe a quarter of all work they receive is copied from another source.
General secretary Dr Mary Bousted said it was because there is so much pressure for pupils to pass tests.
"Unsurprisingly pupils are using all the means available to push up their course work marks, often at the expense of any real understanding of the subjects they are studying," she added.
More than half the teachers thought their students failed to understand what exactly plagiarism was, the report found.
The University of Brighton guide explains that having finished school, its students should know better.
"At this level of education, you are expected to develop your own voice and opinions, building on other peoples work rather than sheltering behind it," it stated.
