Niche is the new network
Web 2.0
17 January 2008
A new social network for volunteering and mentoring has launched and added to the increasing list of niche sites.
Horsemouth, devised by advertising agent MT Rainey, is described as the internet's first "pro-social" networking site.
A separate network launched today for people who are learning languages. VoxSwap, like other networks allows users to build pages from User Generated Content (UGC) and establish relationships with other members.
Studies by analyst Experian have predicted further Web 2.0 growth and the increased adoption of niche communities by marketers.
It foretold the rise of so-called "super-advocates", members of social sites who, through blogging, become figures of trust to other network users.
"Highly influential figures, outspoken and with loyal following, super advocates will have the power in the 2.0 world to make or break a brand's reputation at will," the company's research has warned.
