Social networks go mobile

Web 2.0

16 January 2008

A new social networking site designed for mobile users has been launched in the UK and India.

'Snockles' enables it users to gain access through the internet from mobile phones. They can then send text messages and update their friends about their current location.

Founder of the service, Siddharth Jhunjhunwala said: "Snockles is focused on providing a messaging and communication platform, much like how email and IM are forms of messaging."

He hoped the business application, Enterprise Snockles, will also have a wide appeal and revealed both "would be able to integrate with open APIs to allow seamless access to existing networks".

Facebook has sold a further share in its network following Microsoft's high profile purchase of 1.6 per cent of the company this summer.

The latest acquisition is by three German entrepreneurs, although exact figures have yet to be revealed, Reuters has reported.
