Meet the neighbours

Web 2.0

10 January 2008

A new social networking site has launched to help new residents meet up with their neighbours, Webuser has reported.

ResidentsHQ is designed for new developments which can lack a sense of community. Co-founder Andrew Painter explained that socialising has changed and the internet has helped residents to take a new perspective.

"Social networking's incredible growth shows there is a great desire for making connections and forming communities. Human nature hasn't changed – we are social beings," he explained.

Mr Painter estimated there are 5,000 developments that would benefit from using a similar set-up.

He said: "Today's fast-paced society with its culture of long working hours means that getting to know your fellow residents can be a challenging and sometimes daunting task."

The social networking boom has increased the amount of time people spend at their computers, with specialist networks helping to satisfy a diverse range of groups and interests.
