Electronics company Thomson will introduce a 'G' button on its telephone handsets, giving users a one-touch connection to Google's business directory assistance.

The manufacturer announced the news at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. It also revealed a new Advanced Cable Gateway - a universal platform for customisable multiplay in a cable-connected home, and a RSS reader equipped handset.

"We're proud to demonstrate at CES the full extent of our home ecosystem and innovative multiple-play offerings and to making them available to all players," said Jacques Dunogue, senior executive vice-principle.

The G button will initiate an auto-dial facility to Goog-411, the free voice-activated Google service. It will appear on more than a dozen GE- branded phones and is available from April.

Bill Gates gave his final speech at CES yesterday, before showing a self-depreciating video of himself rapping with Jay-Z and being turned down for a job playing with U2.
