Web 2.0, Rich Media

24 December 2007

The Queen has made her first foray into the world of social networking after launching her own channel on YouTube.

The unlikely combination of monarch and Web 2.0 has seen the birth of The Royal Channel, 50 years after the Queen made her first televised appearance.

Offering footage from the archives, the site will also show upcoming events and will feature the Queen’s Christmas message.

Already thousands have logged on to the site, with more than 100,000 visitors recorded.

The channel is designed to help more people keep up to date with the Queen’s activities and also offer a personal touch.

The 18 videos currently online date back as far as 1917, as well as depicting the Royal Family in more modern surroundings.
