BBC goes 2.0

Web 2.0

17 December 2007

The BBC has launched a beta version of its homepage, which includes new Web 2.0 features.

Widgets have been integrated into the page's design, which allows users to customise their experience-eventually iPlayer will be included on the page adding further flexibility.

Richard Titus, head of user experience, admitted the idea to use widgets was not totally original. Writing on the corporation's blog, he said: "From a conceptual point of view, the widgetization adopted by Facebook, iGoogle and netvibes weighed strongly on our initial thinking."

One major difference between the BBC and Facebook sites is that all of the content of the beeb's site comes from the corporations other channels.

There has been mixed reviews of the new design - vnunet found one weakness but were generally impressed.
