The Armed Forces is posting videos from Iraq and Afghanistan on YouTube, the BBC has reported.
All three of the services are heavily involved in operational activities and have a presence on the video-sharing site.
Gordon Mackenzie, a defence analyst, told the BBC they were using the site as a " low cost medium to attract new recruits".
"From a recruiting point of view it's cheap compared to a 60-second advert on primetime television," he said.
The use of YouTube is a change of direction for the military, which is usually cautious about allowing material to transfer directly to the media.
An MoD spokesman told the BBC: "The Ministry of Defence was one of the first government departments to recognise the potential of using alternative media channels such as YouTube to communicate with a wider audience."
BBC will launch its iPlayer on Christmas day, however there will be no present for Apple Mac users, as the media player only works with PCs.
