BBC presents iPlayer

The BBC will release the official version of iPlayer on Christmas day after months of testing as a beta.

Viewers can use the player to catch up with programmes from the previous seven days and play back content for as often as they like within the licence period.

The player has been a long time coming and some users are frustrated it does not allow access from Mac computers.

Before long it is hoped the iPlayer will be compatible with portable media players such as iPods and PDAs.

The e–consultancy website said: "The iPlayer looks good, and the controls work intuitively. Picture quality is good too, though it loses a little when viewed in full screen mode."

The corporation has more plans to expand the player and BBC Worldwide is working on an international version
