The second Orange Digital Media Index has been released and shows an explosion in the number of people now using mobile services, the Guardian has reported.
Key findings from the report reveal that mobile video downloads reached 938,000 in the first half of 2007. Music downloads are up by over 15 per cent and the mobile web is starting to attract lots more visitors.
Gavin Forth, Orange's head of entertainment, said mobile gaming had also increased and people were now using the games for different reasons.
"Figures suggest a growing trend of casual gaming - more people downloading a game simply to kill time," the paper reports him as saying.
The first index was launched in May and applauded by industry analysts, Ovum, who said few operators would have the confidence to reveal this much information, telecomasia reported.
"It is only by making public this kind of data that the fixed and mobile broadband industry can get a proper handle on the growth, or lack of it, of new multimedia services," it reported Ovum analysts as saying.
