Ofcom has announced it will host an online auction for more of UK's radio spectrum next year.
The frequencies on offer could be used for high-capacity mobile broadband, mobile television, satellite digital radio or for business customers who want to share wireless connections between buildings.
Chief executive, Ed Richards said: "Ofcom is responsible for ensuring the most efficient use of the UK's finite spectrum resource.
"This marks the start of our fifth spectrum auction process as we continue to release spectrum for the benefit of consumers and citizens."
Ranging between 1452 – 1492MHz, the band of frequencies is known as the 'L' band.
Further sales are expected including the release of the 'digital dividend'- the spectrum released after TV moves to a digital only signal.
Google has committed $4.6 million to the upcoming US sale of frequencies which starts in January.
