Consumer activity on Black Friday and Cyber Monday has resulted in a huge increase in the value of goods sold online, according to new figures.
Black Friday is the start of the traditional shopping season and Cyber Monday is the following Monday. This year's figures show the purchase value of goods has increased by 83 and 80 per cent respectively, cbronline reported.
Overall, Monday proved more profitable than Friday and this year's figures were a surprise for Carl Clump, chief executive office of Retail Decisions.
"We were anticipating a great Black Friday for online sales but the results from Cyber Monday surpassed our expectations," he said.
It is thought that special promotions released after the weekend influenced the results.
Consumer privacy organisation, TRUSTe, has warned online car buyers to beware of sellers who pose as TRUSTe agents and ask them to forward cash via money transfer.
