Most people are not scared about getting caught downloading music and film clips, and they are confused how digital rights packages work, a new study has found.
The Olswang Digital Convergence Consumer Survey 2007 was conducted in conjunction with YouGov and found that only one-third of respondents thought 'ripping' a CD to a computer was illegal.
Almost three-quarters of people surveyed believe that, once they have bought some content, they "should have the freedom to transfer that content between all of their personal devices", the study revealed.
Despite this the research found 34 per cent of those who replied believed it was wrong to download illegally - a further third were worried about the quality of the files coming from the internet.
Police recently shut down OiNK, a members-only site where subscribers had to keep posting music to remain included.
