The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) is to develop a ten-point environmental plan in its summit for change meeting.
The association is working with an alliance of companies on a Publicly Available Specification (PAS) and hopes to produce a benchmark document for UK industries.
It hopes to produce a scheme robust enough to gain endorsement from stakeholders and help business tackle environmental challenges. Robert Keitch, director of media channel development thinks it is an opportunity to work together.
"For the first time, businesses will be able to effectively and collectively demonstrate their environmental credentials and cut through the 'greenwash'," he said.
The group already has a partnership with Envirowise and Friends of the Earth to produce 'Enviro-guides'.
Friends of the Earth launched in 1971 and has championed campaigns for climate change and doorstep recycling. It has nearly one million members and is dependant on individuals for 90 per cent of its income.
