MySpace Records has agreed a deal with punk band Pennywise to release their next album for free.

Mobile music company, Textango, sponsors the release and New Media Age has said that fans will have to add the company to their friends list before getting the download.

Co-founder and president of MySpace, Tom Anderson seems keen on establishing further similar deals. The Guardian reports him saying the deal is "just the beginning of a high volume of cutting-edge music programming".

Textango has released a mobile billing and music delivery platform which allows users anywhere in the US to buy music by sending a text message from their mobile phones.

Radiohead released their latest album online and allowed listeners to decide how much they wanted to pay for the full download. The band's merchandising company is linked in to the process and after receiving the music users receive a promotional email.

Firms are keen to find solutions that bring together different elements of online life and monetize web content.
