Yahoo!'s popular picture sharing site, Flickr, will feature new mapping features that help users search for location-based photographs.
Called Places, the new addition to the site allows users to find the most popular place for pictures and search more than 100,000 locations. Each place gets its own page and can include weather data and additional geographical information.
Kakul Srivastava, senior director of product management said: "It's a new way to browse what is happening in the world."
The site currently hosts 31.1 million photographs and receives approximately 2,000 more each minute. Pictures can be found by searching in groups, sets or a point in time.
The site describes itself as "the WD-40 that makes it easy to get photos from one person to another in whatever way they want".
Sharing information is one of the significant features in the development of the web. Fast connections and transfer rates allow users all over the world to upload personal information and document their lives.
