The most popular business communication is not done in social networks, but in more traditional settings, a new study has revealed.
Clients expect to start a relationship in person, 47 per cent prefer lunch, 26 per cent drinks at a private club and more than ten per cent like a round of golf.
Research by Vodafone found the telephone was still the favourite tool for networking, although usage has dropped among younger people who preferred to go online.
Kyle Whitehill, director of enterprise, commented: “Online networking is a huge phenomenon and one that will no doubt have an impact on some of the ways businesses communicate and market themselves".
However, the research found that more than 25 per cent of senior execs would not work with people unless they had at least spoken on the phone. One in five MDs wouldn't do a deal unless they had met face to face with the person.
Virtual worlds offer huge possibilities to advertisers. However, they are often considered as private spaces and adverts should be targeted accurately to avoid offending their members.
