Making a dash for it

Web 2.0

29 October 2007

A new application lets mobile users control their phones and change settings from their home computer.

US company, Dashwire, has launched new software that mirrors all phone content and stores it in an online account. Users of the service can access their phone, send text messages and use its stored data using a computer keyboard.

Ford Davison, company chief executive officer, thinks this type of product represents the future.

"The potential around web-connected phones and services is the biggest opportunity in the wireless industry," he said.

The software is currently only available for phones that are enabled with Windows Mobile 5.0 and 6, however, the company hopes to eventually offer it to a larger market.

The news comes as internet telephone service, Skype, has joined with mobile telephone provider 3 and launched a mobile phone that can make free internet calls. The phone goes on sale in November and is available to pay-as-you-go and contract customers.
