The Post Office is hoping that the Netski generation will choose its new broadband package.

The service goes live next week and is targeted at those aged between 50 and 65. Customers can pay by cash for the service, a first for the UK, and they can do so at any of the company's 14,000 branches.

The Post Office believes that users over 50 will account for half of all new additions to the market by 2010. Managing director, Alan Cook, hoped the service will encourage this generation to get involved with the internet.

"Until now, some significant groups in society have missed out on all the internet has to offer purely because broadband is perceived as a complicated luxury," he explained.
Pop band Westlife will feature in the company's advertising campaign, as will Joan Collins and global stars Keith Harris and Orville. The adverts were directed by the award winning writer, producer and actor, Armando Iannucci.

Despite the increased proliferation of broadband, a gap still exists between those who have access and those without. Often referred to as the 'digital divide', this gap is often widest between western and developing countries.
