Mobiles, marketing and social networking are dominating the Cellular and Internet Telecommunications Association (CITA ) Wireless IT and Entertainment conference in California this week, Wired.com has reported.
This annual conference is where the mobile world is showcasing its technology and there will be several presentations on mobile socialising and developing advertising opportunities.
Robert Mesirow, vice president of business operations and show director, used Japanese firm NTT DoCoMo as an example of a company making money from mobile social networking.
He thinks the market has huge potential but notes that there may have to be a trade-off for consumers to accept this type of advertising.
"People want free stuff, and if it's compelling, they'll be happy to accept advertising," Wired reported him saying.
In an earlier statement , Mr Mesirow commented: "Some of the largest and most respected brands today are implementing mobile marketing campaigns that are effectively reaching their target audience in creative ways."
Mobile handsets are at the forefront of 'convergence', where phones, personal organisers and music players merge into one.
