Mothercare delivers social network

Mothercare has launched Gurgle, a new social networking site aimed at parents.

The company say they started the network because parents wanted a social network relevant to their needs. Research by the company also found that 63 per cent of pregnant women went online for advice within three weeks of giving birth.

Ben Gordon, chief executive, said: "Mothercare already has a well-established web presence and gurgle.com is a natural extension, leveraging the expertise and authority of our brand combined with innovative online marketing opportunities, to reach and help a broader spectrum of customers."

The site is bookmarked into five sections, trying for a baby, pregnancy, birth, baby and toddler. In addition to parenting articles and tutorial videos it features a baby-naming engine and an ovulation calendar.

So far social networks have been directed towards younger people who prove most enthusiastic to embrace internet technology. Businesses hope to take advantage of the pioneering 'apps' or applications which have been developed to suit these cyberspaces.
