Trading Standards has warned of a new 'phishing' scam that asks for bank details before stealing money from accounts.

The message is designed to look like it comes from the Nationwide
Building Society. It asks for customers to update security information
but people are urged not to reply.

Peter Sherry, Trading Standards manager, said: "If you supply the
information requested then do not be surprised if your bank account is emptied of substantial amounts of your hard-earned cash."

The idea is copied from previous scams where criminals 'phish' for
personal data. Some eBay and PayPal customers have received similar imitation emails.

Mr Sherry reminded online customers to be cautious, he said: "No bank or building society will ever ask you to submit such information via e-mail or require you to log-on to 'confirm' your details."

Software Corporation, Symantec, warned that cyber criminals are
"increasingly becoming more professional - even commercial - in the
development, distribution and use of malicious code and services".ADNFCR-1093-ID-18325850-ADNFCR
