The UK's demand for wireless goods has helped chip maker, Intel, secure its record third quarter results.

The company announced a 43 per cent rise in net profits and a 15 per cent year-on-year rise in revenue to $10.1 billion.

According to Graham Palmer, director of Intel UK and Ireland, Britain is a leading consumer of online content and the company has been working with BT to ensure that laptops can switch off and on seamlessly when in a wireless hotspot.

Mr Palmer told the Telegraph: "The challenge Intel has is to move our technology into these laptops or handheld devices, and make sure it works on the move and in different countries - on the global market."

Intel chips have been widely used in the construction of PCs but only recently introduced into Apple Macintosh computers when the company migrated from PowerPC to x86 processors in 2005.ADNFCR-1093-ID-18322118-ADNFCR
