MySpace, the social networking website, is to integrate Skype internet phone services and allow its users to call each other.
Starting at the end of November, MySpace users will be able to use the service for free and call other Skype users outside of the website.
MySpace chief executive Chris DeWolfe explained: "Internet calling is the natural next step for how our members communicate with each other."
The feature will be added to MySpace's instant messaging option without users needing to download additional software and it will also give them the opportunity to pay to call mobile phones.
Despite privacy concerns, social networking sites remain popular and are expanding the range of tools that their communities can use to communicate.
Mobile phone company Vodafone recently launched a service just for members of Second Life allowing avatars to connect calls to mobile phones.
The company said the service "lets you live both your real life and virtual life to the full".
