Bloggers donate advertising revenue

International Blog Action Day will see bloggers give their day's advertising earnings to environmental charities.
Participants in today's effort can either donate the money or publish a blog on the environment. The internet chat is hosted by European Commission environment commissioner, Stavros Dimas, and will be in English, French, German and Greek.
Commissioner Dimas said International Blog Action Day "is an excellent initiative that will help to raise public awareness of the serious environmental challenges we face and to involve citizens in Europe and the rest of the world in contributing to solutions".
The event is organised by bloggers Collis Ta'eed, Leo Babauta, and Cyan Ta'eed. Currently there are 15,587 blogs signed up with a combined RSS reach of 12.5 million.
Mr Dimas has suggested discussions from questions such as: "How ‘green’ is the European Commission in its own operations?"; "Will Europeans ever be weaned off petrol-powered cars?"; and "Are biofuels the solution - or a recipe for world hunger?"
Blogs act as online diaries and have become an increasingly mainstream source of influence, particularly in spheres such as politics.
