Yahoo! remained the top-ranked web property in Japan for the month of August, according to recently released figures.

The data from comScore.com showed that in August nearly 54 million people in Japan went online, spending an average of 19 hours each on the internet.

Yahoo! had more than 41 million visitors during August - almost the same number of visitors that it had in July.

Google also fared well in the results, ranking second with 30.8 million visitors, while Microsoft was third with 29.7 million visitors.

However, Wikipedia was reported to be the only top ten website that experienced significant growth.

"Since our first official ranking in June, we have seen Yahoo!, Google and Microsoft remain unchanged as the top three properties in Japan," said Maru Sato, managing director of comScore Japan.

"Among the top ten properties, only Wikipedia experienced growth of any significance in August, which tends to be a less active month online due to summer holidays."
