A social network called Wibiki has introduced a free server-based advert blocking tool that enables users to replace web ads with their own content, Vnunet.com has reported.
Software engineer for Wibiki Michael Gill explained that users previously have not been able to control the advertising that appears at the top of sides of a website, but the new technology will allow people to opt to leave the space blank or add replacement content, such as posting boards and personal widgets.
Mr Gill said: "Users can block ads safely with no fancy software and actually use the blocked ad space.
"I can share my posts with my buddies without having to go to other websites or my email. We have built a Public Timeline Twitter widget as an initial demonstration of what we plan to offer.
"Our goal is to offer users what they want and help them reduce unnecessary site hopping across the various social networks."
