A new report has revealed that the e-commerce market is expected to grow substantially this year.

It is estimated that the value of the UK market for e-commerce will be worth around £400 million in 2007, compared to an estimate of £268 million for 2005.

According to e-consultancy's E-commerce Platforms Buyer's Guide for 2007, the market has consistently demonstrated healthy growth in the last two years, expanding by 22 per cent in 2006.

The firm forecasts that the same 22 per cent growth will apply to this year.

Detailing trends in its report, the company explains that major retailers have been driving e-commerce forward with new and revamped websites and buyers are seeking marketing-led platforms that provide a better user experience.

In a wider context, the Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) said in May 2007 that online shopping is growing at a faster rate than ever before and predicts that online sales in the UK will reach £78 billion a year by 2010.
